Red Deer breeding season at International Tagus Natural Park

Red Deer breeding season at International Tagus Natural Park

In one of the natural parks where we develop our activities, it is currently taking place one of the most iconic performances provided by the portuguese wildlife. This is the Red Deer roaring períod.

Their breeding season is all but discreet. Throughout a vast territory, the presence of a large community of these cervids is felt on both sides of the river Tagus. On the valley of the great river and in the montado forests echoes the throaty roar of males trying to ensure their genetic continuity, forming harems and defending them from other competing males.

We were there to attend this event and we were not disappointed. We saw and heard plenty of Red Deer and, in addition, the most emblematic birds of prey of this protected area “decided” to gift us with good observations and photographic opportunities.

It is hereby a record of it.

We present here a short video made with the mobile phone -so sorry for the quality- but is an attempt to make audible the roar. You must increase the volume to the maximum to let the roaring of the stags sounds audible.
