Tejo Internacional Nature Park covers the international section of the Tagus River with its main tributaries, the rivers Aravil, Erges and Pônsul, and covering an area of more than 26 484 hectares. The forest cover of the park is mainly formed by forests of Cork and Holm oaks. It represents an important nesting area for Mediterranean birds, also for birds of prey and cliff-breeding birds. We can observe here Bonelli’s Eagle (Aquila fasciata), Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Iberian Imperial Eagle (Aquila adalberti), Short-toed Eagle (Circaetus gallicus), Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus), Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus), Black Vulture (Aegypius monachus), Eagle Owl (Bubo Bubo), Azure-winged Magpie (Cyanopica cooki), Spanish Sparrow (Passer hispaniolensis), Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus), Bee Eater (Merops apiaster).
