Deer Watching at Tejo Internacional
Tejo Internacional Natural Park covers the international stretch of the biggest Iberian river. With its main tributaries, the Aravil, Erges and Pônsul rivers correspond to an area of more than 26,450 hectares. The Mediterranean forest cover of this territory is formed mainly by cork oaks and holm oaks woods and scrub of rosemary and stems. In addition, it represents an important nesting area for some of the most endangered bird species such as the Bonelli’s Eagle (Aquila fasciata), the Iberian Imperial Eagle (Aquila adalberti), the Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), the Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus) and the Black Vulture (Aegypius monachus). This Natural Park houses an important community of deer (Cervus elaphus) that can be observed throughout the year, mainly during the breeding period, which is designated by “roar”. On an all-terrain safari, with some forays on foot, we will try to observe these magnificent wild animals in their natural habitat.
