In parallel with the incredible natural values of the region, the Greater Côa Valley represents a unique opportunity to apply the principles of rewilding.
This river valley represents a significant fluvial corridor, with about 140km of extension. From the source, in the Serra das Mesas (Sabugal),
to the mouth, in the Douro River (Vila Nova de Foz Côa), this river crosses the plateau area of the Beira Interior,
which corresponds to the end of the Iberian Meseta.

This important geosite of the Naturtejo Geopark is located on the northern slope of the village of Penha Garcia, where it includes the valley of the River Ponsul, formed by steep slopes of quartzite.
