With profound knowledge of Portugal\u2019s natural heritage, our mission is to promote this richness through immersive experiences that spark curiosity and raise awareness for conservation. Our activities focused on observation, photography, and nature interpretation are often integrated into hiking trails, providing an enriching experience on physical, psychological, and cognitive levels.<\/span><\/p>\n

We operate throughout the country, organizing expeditions dedicated to discovering fauna and flora (birds, mammals, insects, botany, reptiles, amphibians, and geology) combined with guided walks.<\/span><\/p>\n

We are trained and properly accredited to organise visits to the rewilding<\/strong> areas of the Greater C\u00f4a Valley.<\/span><\/p>\n

We also organise a number of wildlife photography tours. In this sense, through a collaborative partnership with Rewilding Portugal<\/a><\/strong>, we are managing a series of wildlife photographic hides in the rewilding areas of the Greater C\u00f4a Valley.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the natural heritage, we try to highlight the cultural, historical and gastronomic values that differentiate the territories where we operate.<\/span><\/p>\n

WILDLIFE PORTUGAL is a member of the Wild C\u00f4a Network<\/a><\/strong> and is helping to make the Greater C\u00f4a Valley a more natural and wilder place, valuing and promoting the coexistence of natural values with local communities and traditional practices.<\/span><\/p>\n

WILDLIFE PORTUGAL has the support and backing of the Rewilding Europe<\/a><\/strong> Foundation, a Europe-wide initiative whose mission is to promote the creation of more spaces for wildlife and to develop nature tourism in these areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Licensed by Turismo de Portugal, with RNAVT 12577<\/strong> and RNAAT 369\/2025<\/strong> registrations, WILDLIFE PORTUGAL also has a Nature Tourism certificate and is a NATURAL.PT member, as we have chosen the National Network of Protected Areas for most of our activities, as it is in these natural spaces that we find the most significant values of our natural heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n

He is also a professional photographer.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

He was born in Lisbon but has roots in a village in the centre of Portugal, where he spent part of his childhood and where contact with the natural environment gave him his the first experiences of observing nature.<\/span><\/p>\n

His life has always been linked to nature conservation, natural history and ecotourism, and he was an activist in an environmental NGO, of which he was even a regional leader. His knowledge of the area has also allowed him to be involved in designing tourist routes and trails.<\/span><\/p>\n

He has led guided tours and excursions to wild areas in Portugal and Spain. Over the years he has undertaken specific training in the areas of nature tourism and adventure sports, as well as nature interpretation.<\/span><\/p>\n

He has been leading Naturetrek<\/a><\/strong> excursions for several years and, although he specialises in birdwatching, he is a naturalist with knowledge that extends to botany, insects (dragonflies and butterflies), reptiles, amphibians and wild mammals, geology and geomorphology.<\/span><\/p>\n

Passionate about biodiversity, he has endeavoured to get to know and photograph the species of Portugal’s biological heritage. This is one of the ways he has found to promote knowledge and conservation of biodiversity through photography. He keeps a record of his observations on iNaturalist<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fernando Rom\u00e3o is the face of WILDLIFE PORTUGAL.<\/span><\/p>\n
