The Côa Valley Grand Route is a linear track of almost 200 km. It follows the course of the Côa river, from the source (Mesas Mountain, Sabugal) to the mouth (Vila Nova de Foz Côa). It is marked in both directions, being possible to opt for the direction south-north or north-south. It is divided into 11 stages, ranging between 13km and 25km.
This GR crosses the border territory along Guarda district, rich in a patrimonial and landscape heritage, that is unveiled at every step. From the prehistoric vestiges to medieval castles and the walled Historical Villages, which recall a troubled past.
Also the natural and archaeological values are well marked along the valley of the river, as evidenced by the following classifications where this falls:
